Where is the best place to spend my Algarve villa holiday?
There is no right or wrong answer for this question. The Algarve has almost 400km of beautiful coastline and outstanding inner rural regions. Therefore there is a lot of diversity when it comes to locations.
It all depends on your likes and dislikes, but here is an overview of popular towns and resorts, where most people end up booking their Algarve villa holiday:
Vilamoura – This is a seaside resort that has a stunning Marina, clean beaches, luxury villas and 5 golf courses. It is reasonably prices and good value for money. There are plenty of local activities in the area such as boat trips, charter yachts, mini-golf, tennis courts, horse ridding. You will find that most of the facilities, supermarkets, bars and restaurants are in walking distance of the holiday villas. If you are a boat or golf enthusiast this is the place to be.
Albufeira – This is a certainly an extremely popular destination for tourists, especially amongst the younger crowds. It is famous for it’s busy nightlife, and strip of colourful bars and clubs Bellingham Bar. It is very suitable for those who are on a tight budget, and who are looking for a fun packed activity holiday, as there are also water parks in the area. If you enjoy going out and partying this is where you should go.
Tavira – This quiet fishing town is located on the eastern side of the Algarve, and is a typical and traditional Portuguese village. You will find plenty of seafood restaurants that will serve you freshly caught fish. Most holiday villas are modestly priced. This will certainly be a great place to unwind and experience the true Algarvian fisherman lifestyle.
Sao Bras de Alportel – This is a small inland down, where I grew up. It is about 10 miles away from the ocean. You will experience true Algarvian culture and will be blown away by the amazing hillside landscapes. There is a museum, local swimming pools, boutique cafes, horse ridding and over 60 restaurants to choose from. It is said that Sao Bras has the best quality air in the Algarve, especially of you have asthma as there are plenty of Eucalyptus trees spread across the hillsides.
Vale do Lobo – This is a luxury, upmarket golf and spa resort that has many onsite leisure facilities. It is one of the most expensive locations for Algarve holiday villas, but the level and standard of quality is unbeatable. You will find Michelin star restaurants, challenging golf courses, stunning cliffs and golden sand beaches. There are plenty of restaurants onsite and live music in the evenings. My friends have been playing live music in Vale do Lobo for the last couple of years and have become extremely popular. You will probably bump into a few celebrities and sports starts in Vale do Lobo.
